Should I repair my old PC or replace it?

Repair if it can run Windows 11 and the fix is modest; replace if it can't or the repair is costly. Four questions settle it.

Repair when the PC can run Windows 11 and the fix is a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Replace when it can’t run Windows 11, or when the repair would cost a large share of the price of a replacement.

Questions that settle it

  1. Is it Windows 11 compatible? If the processor isn’t supported, repairs only delay the inevitable.
  2. What’s actually wrong? A slow hard drive or too little memory is cheap to fix. A failed motherboard usually isn’t.
  3. How old is it? Batteries, fans and drives wear out. An older machine may need several repairs in a row.
  4. Does it still do the job? If it struggles with the work you do today, a repair won’t change that.

Upgrades that pay off

Swapping a spinning hard drive for an SSD is often the single biggest speed boost an older but compatible PC can get. Adding memory helps when lots of browser tabs and apps are open at once.

When replacing wins

A new machine brings Windows 11 support, a fresh warranty from the manufacturer and modern security hardware. Plan the data move first.
